Recently; Singapore and Malaysia have announced that a high-speed rail link will be built to connect Singapore to Kuala Lumpur. This project will shorten travel time to about 90 minutes. Imagine having a sudden craving to go Kuala Lumpur for shopping or dining and being able to satisfy that craving within an hour and a half. Singaporeans would be able to have lunch with friends in Kuala Lumpur, which is about 350 kilo-meters (220 miles) away, and get back within the day.
The existing rail link between the two countries dates back to the period of British colonial rule over both, with stops at several Malaysian towns. The current Singapore-Kuala Lumpur service takes more than seven hours.
Currently, the travel time by car is four hours, including clearing immigration. It is five hours by bus. Although a flight takes less than an hour, it does not include the time taken to check in, pass immigration and pick up luggage.
Interests related to property in Kuala Lumpur would be rising due to the construction of the high-speed rail link. The shortened travel time would increase the popularity of Kuala Lumpur to be a holiday getaway or a retirement destination among Singaporeans. This would also increase the property related businesses such as the upcoming development of the KL Gateway that promises to be a distinguishing commercial with its unique architecture.
Property values along the expected rail link are also likely to rise. InHeaThe rail link is aimed to be completed in 2020.
